Children love transforming themselves! Makeup allows them to step into the role of a character and fuel their imagination, provided their skin is treated with care, as it is thinner and more sensitive than an adult's. Before taking out the brushes, here are some good habits to follow (and if you're wondering if it's too early, our article "At what age can a child wear makeup?" answers the question).
What makeup to use (and what to avoid)?
Always choose makeup formulated for children, with a product sheet that states the recommended age and ingredients. In our selection of makeup for children, Oh Flossy and Namaki makeup is recommended from age 3 and can be removed with water (with water and soap for Namaki).
Absolutely avoid:
- ❌ acrylic paint, gouache paint and felt-tip pens: they are made for paper, not skin;
- ❌ adult makeup, designed for adult skin and not for children's skin;
- ❌ party products with no list of ingredients or recommended age.
A small, honest clarification: our makeup is made of soft, pearlescent powders, not thick paint. We therefore focus on light, subtle looks (a nose, whiskers, colored cheeks, a few stars) rather than a fully painted face. And that's for the best: it's faster, more comfortable and much easier to remove.
The day before: test on a small area
Even with makeup for children, do a test the day before: apply a little of each product to a small area (the inside of the wrist or the crook of the elbow) and observe it until the next day. No redness or itching? You can go ahead. At the slightest doubt, skip that product and switch to paint-free looks.
On the big day: prepare the skin
- 🧼 Start with clean, dry skin: rinsing with warm water is enough.
- 💧 Moisturize 10 to 15 minutes beforehand with a light cream, such as the Famidoux Toofruit cream (from age 3, for dry and sensitive skin), then let it absorb.
- ✋ Do not apply makeup to damaged skin: avoid pimples, scratches, red patches, or irritated areas.
- ⏱️ Keep it brief: a simple look can be done in a few minutes, before your little monster loses patience!
Areas to avoid around the eyes
The eye area is the most delicate part of the face. Follow a few simple rules:
- 👁️ Never apply makeup to the lash line or inside the eye;
- keep about a centimeter's distance from the eye for designs (whiskers, stars, moons);
- on the eyelid, use only eye makeup designed for children, applied to the mobile eyelid with eyes closed;
- also avoid the inside of the nostrils, and use products made for the lips on the lips.
🎃 4 easy Halloween looks to create in a few minutes
Here are our favorite ideas, which can be created using the makeup and accessories from the shop. For each look: the steps, then the accessory that makes all the difference. No need to be an expert: a star on the cheek is often enough to make the eyes shine, and these little touches can be reused all year round for a birthday, carnival, or school party.
🐱 The little cat
- Dab a touch of pastel pink blush (found in the Oh Flossy "Mini" and deluxe sets) on the tip of the nose.
- Draw three thin whiskers on each cheek using the purple makeup from the Oh Flossy deluxe makeup set, using the tip of the applicator or a barely damp fine brush for a neater line.
- Finish with a little blush on the cheekbones.

✨ Paint-free looks for toddlers and sensitive skin
Sensitive or reactive skin, a child who hates having their face touched, or simply a toddler: there is no need for makeup to be the cutest little monster. Accessories do all the work, and there is nothing to remove.
Before age 3, avoid makeup (our face paints are recommended from age 3) and small objects like rings or rhinestones: a soft and comfortable costume is more than enough.
From age 3, here are our ideas:
