Have you ever seen your child stare at the shelf with stars in their eyes at a colorful product? This magical moment is exactly what bath bombs, bath balls, and bath pearls are made to create.
But with bath bombs, bath balls, and bath pearls, it can be hard to tell them apart. These three formats look similar and sit side by side in stores, yet their effects are not the same.
In this article, we break down the differences to help you choose the right product for your child's age, skin, and mood.
Bath bombs and bath balls: two names for the same treat
Good news: the big question about bath bombs versus bath balls has a simple answer. A bath ball is simply a round bath bomb. Both terms refer to exactly the same type of product.
The principle is the same: a mixture of sodium bicarbonate and citric acid that creates a fizzing reaction when it comes into contact with water. The water bubbles, changes color, and releases fragrance, turning bath time into a real show for children.
Depending on the style, the bomb may be a whole ball (single-use size), a smaller mini-bomb, or a tablet that can be broken into pieces for several baths. The result is always the same: a fun, colorful, and fragrant bath.
What we love about bath bombs for children
Bath bombs turn everyday bath time into an event. For children who are reluctant to get in the tub, they are often the little something extra that makes all the difference.
Some styles, such as Inuwet effervescent tablets, can be broken into 4 or 5 pieces, making them a convenient and economical option. Others, such as Oh Flossy mini-bombs handmade in Australia, come in 7 different colors for a whole week of rainbow baths.

Bath pearls: two versions to know
The term bath pearl actually covers two different products, which is often where the confusion lies.
The oil pearl: a childhood memory
This is the type of bath pearl many parents remember from when they were children: a soft, colorful capsule that does not fizz. When it comes into contact with warm water, it melts and releases scented oil into the bath. Ours contain soy oil: after getting out of the bath, your child's skin will be soft, not just scented.
The effervescent pearl: a mini-bomb
An effervescent bath pearl works like a tiny bath bomb: it fizzes and lightly colors the water as it dissolves. Its small size (9 g) allows you to vary the scents or drop several into the same bath.
Pearls made in Brittany, France
The bath pearls we offer at Petit'Éclat, in both oil and effervescent versions, are made in Brittany. Our oil pearls are scented with fragrances from Grasse, made from more than 97% ingredients of natural origin, and come in 24 styles: whale, frog, dolphin, duck, elephant, heart, star... Sold individually, they are suitable from age 3.
Each pearl is a little surprise in itself. Your child can choose a shape according to their mood, and this act of independence turns the evening routine into a moment of bonding. For a gift, our glass jars filled with pearls make a lovely present.
Bath bomb or pearl: how to choose based on your child's needs?
The right choice depends mainly on what you are looking for in your child's bath.
If your main goal is to make bath time fun, bath bombs or effervescent pearls are perfect. They create a spectacular effect that children love to watch, and some styles color the water very noticeably.
If you prefer a gentle, scented bath without fizzing, choose an oil pearl: the oil released into the water leaves the skin soft, which children with dry skin particularly appreciate in winter.
There is no reason not to alternate depending on your child's mood and the day!

Your questions about bath bombs and bath pearls
From what age?
From age 3, for both bath bombs and pearls, and always under adult supervision.
How many pearls should I put in the bath?
Two or three oil pearls, or one to three effervescent pearls, are enough for one bath.
Do they stain the bathtub?
The bath bombs and pearls in our selection color the water without staining the skin or the bathtub; if there is a slight residue, a quick wipe with a sponge is all it takes. With oil pearls, the bottom of the bathtub can become a little slippery: help your child out of the bath, then rinse the tub.
