🛁 Baby’s bath: frequency, temperature, and gentle products from birth

Baby's bath time is much more than just a moment for hygiene: it's a moment of tenderness, contact, and bonding 💛

For new parents, it's also a source of questions: how often should baby have a bath? At what temperature? For how long? And which products should you choose for baby's delicate skin?

In this article, we give you all the guidelines for a peaceful bath, and the gentle products we recommend in our store, from birth.

Baby bubble bath

👶 Why is bath time an important moment for baby?

Bath time plays several roles:

  • gently cleanse the skin;
  • offer a calm moment, skin to skin and eye to eye;
  • create a ritual that helps baby orient themselves in their day.

Baby's skin is thinner than an adult's: it requires gentle handling and products designed for little ones, in small quantities.

🌿 How often should baby have a bath?

  • During the first few months, two to three baths per week are often enough.
  • A daily bath is still possible if it's part of your routine, provided it's short.
  • Between baths, a quick daily wipe of the face, neck folds, and bottom is enough.

Until the umbilical cord stump has fallen off, follow the advice of the maternity ward, your midwife, or your pediatrician for bathing and cord care.

🌡️ What temperature should baby's bath be?

  • The water: around 37°C. Check it with a bath thermometer, or failing that, with your elbow, which is more sensitive than your hand.
  • The room: well heated, around 22 to 24°C, without drafts.
  • The duration: 5 to 10 minutes are enough, before the water cools down.
  • Safety: prepare everything within reach before starting (towel, clothes, diaper, products) and never leave baby alone in the water, even for a second.

🫧 Which products for baby's bath from birth?

A single gentle cleansing product, used in a small quantity, is enough. Here are the ones we recommend:

  • The Monjour baby body and hair wash gel (€17.90): a single 500 ml bottle for the whole bath, with apricot extract, with 98% ingredients of natural origin. Made in France, from birth.
  • The Néobulle organic baby wash gel (€18.90): for body and hair, with orange blossom water and organic aloe vera, in a 400 ml pump bottle. Made in France, from birth.
  • The Minois baby bubble bath (€29.90): a light foam with organic honey and organic orange blossom floral water, delicately scented. 500 ml, from birth.
  • The Le Petit Prince organic baby bubble bath (€8.90): with organic aloe vera leaf juice and organic calendula extract, with an isolacrymal pH. 250 ml, made in France, designed for little ones from the first few months.

💧 After the bath: dry and moisturize

Dry baby by patting, without rubbing, paying special attention to the folds (neck, armpits, thighs). If their skin needs it, a little massage with the Monjour baby moisturizer (€17.90, for face and body, from birth) extends this moment of tenderness.

For the bottom, our diaper cream guide helps you choose the right care at every change.

💤 Bath time: an evening ritual

Integrated into the evening routine, bath time creates a gentle transition to mealtime and bedtime: soft lighting, calm voice, always the same gestures. Baby quickly gets used to it.

As they grow, bath time becomes a playground. From 3 years old for most, bath bombs and bath pearls take over: find all our ideas in the essentials for a gentle and fun bath.

❓ FAQ: baby's bath

Around 37°C for the water, checked with a bath thermometer, and 22 to 24°C for the room.
